- Courier bags are great for shorter trips where you do not have to carry too much weight. If you are going further or need to carry more gear then panniers are essential. Carrying a lot of weight in a courier bag for long periods can cause back problems in some people. For transporting even more gear think about a trailer.
- Ortlieb and some other manufacturers make completely waterproof panniers and bags. Waterproof panniers are worth the extra money.
