Level 1A
First Time Rider - You need support to ride a bike
Milestones:
1.1 You can get on and off the bike without help
1.2 You can start off and pedal without help
1.3 You can stop without help
1.4 You can ride along without help
1.5 You can start without help
1.6 You can make the bike go where you want to
Congratulations!
You can ride a bike without support but you need better control
Level 1B
Milestones:
1.7 You can use your gears
1.8 You can stop quickly
1.9 You can swerve to avoid objects
1.10 You can look all around, including behind, without wobbling
1.11 You can signal right and left without wobbling
1.12 You can look behind and signalling at the same time without wobbling
You have good control. You are now able to use your skills on the roads
Level 2
Milestones:
2.1 You can start an on-road journey
2.2 You can finish an on-road journey
2.3 You are aware of everything around you as you ride including people behind you
2.4 You understand where to ride on the roads you are using
2.5 You can pass parked or slower moving vehicles
2.6 You are able to pass side roads
2.7 You can turn right into a major road and left into a minor road. You are able to make a U turn
2.8 You can turn left into a major road and right into a minor road
2.9 You are able to take the lane when you need to
2.10 You can decide if a cycle lane is going to help your journey
You are confident to do some local journeys independently.
You are now ready to look at situations that are more complicated
Level 3
Milestones:
3.1 You understand how to use roundabouts
3.2 You can use junctions controlled by traffic lights
3.3 You can use multi lane roads and turn off and into them
3.4 You understand filtering and can decide when to filter and when to wait
